Every Donation in October will be matched up to €10,000!

October 2025 Donation Match Campaign

Ethiopia Deaf Project have just received an incredible pledge from a donor. They have offered to double every donation we received this October up to a total of €10,000!

This opportunity comes at the perfect time as the school is just about to open its doors for the new school year, and students are already arriving back from the countryside to register, including some new children like Getachew and Meseret and Abdi, whose parents are so incredibly grateful to see their child finally get an opportunity to attend school, something they were told for years was impossible.

Your donation today doubled by our generous donor will give these children the opportunity to belong, to learn and develop. It will also help us fund some urgent repairs and upgrades in the school, including rebuilding a retaining wall damaged by recent heavy rain and the replacement of old desks worn out from all the learning.

If we were to reach our target of €10,000, we could even allow ourselves to imagine installing something as transformative as solar power to run the school, and that would be amazing.

Every donation you make, however big or small will not only be the difference for the children and their futures, it will be double the difference. Please help us continue our efforts to include deaf children in education. Thank you.

A Message from Fr. Stephen:

EDP Christmas Meal Appeal 2024

This Christmas, help ease the financial strain for poorer families in the village of Ambo.
Many are struggling with the rising cost of living, and your support can bring a little relief and a great deal of joy during this special season.

We aim to provide 300 food parcels to help these families celebrate a ‘Melkam Gena’—a Happy Christmas.

Thank you, and Nollaig Shona Duit!

EDP School Cake Sale in ISL Challenge!

Introducing the EDP School Cake Sale in ISL (Irish Sign Language) Challenge!

We are excited to invite schools to participate in a special initiative to support the Ethiopia Deaf Project VLM ( aka EDP). This project is dedicated to improving the lives of Deaf Children in Ethiopia through education, resources, and advocacy. Your involvement can make a real difference!

What’s the Challenge?

We’re asking each school to host its own cake sale event and learn some basic sign language to use during the cake sale. By organizing these cake sales, you’ll be helping to raise crucial funds for EDP while also engaging in a fun and educational activity.

Why Host a Cake Sale?

Hosting a cake sale is a fantastic way to get students involved in a meaningful cause. Not only will it be a fun event, but it will also foster a sense of community and support for a worthy cause. Plus, it’s a great opportunity for students to learn about entrepreneurship and fundraising.

Incorporating Sign Language

To make this event even more impactful, we encourage students to incorporate sign language into their cake sales. This will help raise awareness about the deaf community and give students a valuable skill. We provide you with basic sign language signs in to use during the sale below:

  • Thank You
  • Please
  • How Much
  • What / Repeat
  • Cake
  • Biscuit
  • etc

Learning and using these signs will introduce the basics of Sign language to the students.

Download the poster to help advertise your event! You could also make your own.

Tell us How it Went!

After your cake sale, we’d love to hear about your experience and the amount raised. Please send us your results and any photos from the event to share your success story.

Together, we can make a significant impact on the lives of the students at the ALDS who are supported by the fundraising we do here at the Ethiopia Deaf Project VLM.

We’re looking forward to seeing the creativity and enthusiasm of students across different schools as we work together to support the students at the ALDS.

John Spillane LIVE FUNDRASIER FOR EDP

Ethiopia Deaf Project are delighted to present this fundraiser by John Spillane.

Supporting act: Cuisle Avondhu.

When: 23rd of September at 8PM.

Where: The Courtyard at The Arches, Mallow.

John Spillane is a musician, songwriter, performer, recording artist, storyteller, poet and dreamer. Rooted in people, place and story, his music transports the listener and his live performances captivate audiences around the world.

As an artist his music appeals to listeners across many genres and generations. His vocal style has a unique almost sean-nós like quality and his performances shimmer with the magic realism that permeates many of his songs as he effortlessly flits between beautiful poetry tinged with melancholy to roguish, irreverent humour. John has the ability to charm, mesmerise and entertain in equal measure.

A native of Cork, the County he lovingly describes as “the centre of the universe” and a source of huge creative influence throughout his career. John’s music is inspired by and encapsulates Irish traditional music in its contemporary form – a reflection of Ireland today.

A two-time Meteor Award winner for Best Folk/Trad act John is one of the most accomplished songwriters in Ireland. With an extensive back catalogue beginning with the 1997 album The Wells of the World, his songs have been covered by Christy Moore, Sharon Shannon, Sean Keane and many others.

Twelve albums later in April 2021, John released his first independent album in 20 years, 100 Snow White Horses.

In October 2022, John released ‘In Another Light’ a career spanning album recorded live at the Right Here Right Now Festival recorded at Cork Opera House in November 2021.
